Highly in demand jazz / fusion album from this one-off late-era American combo. Really, a mixed bag. It's surprising to me this inauspicious name was used by so many artists.

I live in Charleston, WV. All these guys were and most still are top-flight musicians. Bob Thompson can be heard every Sunday afternoon on WV Public Radio both recorded and live, as the house keyboardist for Mountain Stage, hosted by Larry Groce, and has been fronting his own groups here for may years. And, I have three or four copies of this, I keep 'em tucked away with my favorite LP treasures. Thanks fr sharing.

ReplyDeleteI used to listen to them many weekends at the Monarch Cafe' in Huntington, WV, ca. 78, 79. I've been out of the area for nearly 30 years but on two occasions when I was back east, I ran into Bob Thompson. He is always a gentleman. Gordon Cupit was the first drummer I ever saw playing open handed. I was mesmerized by his one handed fills!

The Monarch was Huntington's only "certifiable" jazz club. Not too many years into the 1980s, jazz musicians were hard to come by in Huntington and a clientele may have been harder to come by, so they started bringing in a lot of alternative bands and whatnot. I have no idea what became of the club or the owner, Brent Bloom.
