Interior with ST, 1982 and Design, 1987

I don't normally like anything electronic and it's quite absent from this blog as you might have noted, but this band, discography and info here, seems just a little bit more inventive than the average from this bin selection, though this is definitely the genre we are dealing with here.

First album was disappointing to me, being the typical 'minimal synth' style of minimal effort at composition.  A typical song, this one called Luft:

So despite the previous reductio ad absurdum one-note simplicity, it turns out the band was capable of much more creative composition, as seen from the track called NY 1908 with its etude-like character roving over various chords, descending into the Terry Riley-like minimalist ethos at the end:

On the other hand the album closes with synthesizer chords that just absolutely take me on an iditarod sleigh ride to heaven on the track that is Out of Tokyo:

  2. I bought Interiors Design on CD in the cutout bin in the very early 90's. Loved it from the first play. Found it on vinyl recently and gifted it to my oldest daughter who had heard it so much while growing up. Thanks for highlighting their fine albums.

  4. Electronic :) my 808 sample-ridden synthesizer brain says yesssssss (dam us 80s kids...my hippie parents shook their heads thinking more "re-purposed disco"....ha! those who have not done The Safety Dance no nothing!!!!)
I found both of these Lps a pleasant surprise....breezy and playful, forgotten feelings of a happier day, of new possibilities emerging....
    found some field notes:
track 'Flamengo'....standing atop tall hills looking back over those long gone days....a timeless afternoon at the beach
    'Luft'....old jedi riffs....
    'Ascending'....great mini-atmospheres, dark sweetness, 2 a.m. Legend Of Zelda ;)
1987 Lp Design...that late 80s flash and upbeat electronic sound - don't let that be a turn off though, really thoughtful compositions here - good energy! 'Gaia' at around 3:40 really gets going! - these cats are jammin!!
'Out Of Tokyo'....surf's up, time to ride out.....
    Thank you brother J
