Fred Israel's Fashions of the Moon, 1977

Information here, seemingly a one-off from this artist.

Three long tracks of just blissfully bizarre progressive rock in the best tradition of dissonances, weird sounds and chords, oddball melodies, and of course Tolkien references.  Perhaps the most similar album is from Holland, the great Koen de Bruyne's Here Comes the Crazy Man, which was recently released on 2 CDs with some amazing bonus piano compositions.  Strong recommendation for that one too.

So we're dealing with crazy indeed, the craziness of young and super-creative musicians filled with ideas and new chords, new sounds, new dramas to fill our ears with, things we've for sure never heard before.  Consider the track called Gandalf's Return:

Three long tracks, all crazy prog.  Masterpiece. Again.

  6. [in the tradition of our revered mentors Mutant Sounds]
    *GODHEAD ALERT*
"Buckle your seatbelt Dorothy, because Kansas is about to go bye-bye!"
Heads Up! We have a real Monster on our hands here!! :) :) :)
Some creations are so hot with energy and charged with powerLove that they become 'meta-art' and vibrate at higher frequencies, extending into higher spheres of awareness; thus becoming rooted, or active in other regions/domains/realities than their place of inception.
'Fashions Of The Moon' is definitely in this category, bringing fresh energy and enjoyment with every listen. Otherworldly from the first note, we are quickly immersed in fantastic mystery with intriguing beauty and crazy great lyrics, like a hidden book of prophecy is being revealed...
"Made an Image come to Life.....hidden secrets waiting to be born......
Where are We?......You left us food to dowse the sleep, and moons to help creep along, languages to hold hands and ask why......Outside of that,
Nothing can be found, no traces of a Sound..."
OK I feel I need to go re-apprentice with Master Gandalf and spend seven years in contemplation.
    Absolutely mind-blowing! Musically enlightening!!
"Earth to OC.....Earth to OC.....come on back now kiddo!" Ha!
OC shuts off his transmitter and throws his watch overboard -
My friends, we're sailing into Uncharted Waters in the good ship Prog Off!
and we won't need that worn-out old crap anymore; further shedding of stagnant antiquated vestibules from a very tired old script.
We have recovered some field notes:
'Dust in the air suspended marks the place where a story ended...
Now the circle is almost complete, watch and listen to the Dream of Time and Space......It all comes out now flowing like a river.......We are like the Dreamer who dreams and then lives inside the Dream........Now there are some things that will change, the past dictates the future.....
We live inside a Dream, see you at the Curtain Call.
It's a strange night, there's something in the air, can you feel it?
Things really are what they seem.' ......
So when I first encountered this Lp many moons ago, and recovered my head from outer space, right away I thought I recognized the voice...
sounded very much like Mr Bobby Callender, the elusive 'Boss-town Sound' chameleon character behind such masterpieces as, 1968's 'Rainbow', 1971's 'The Way (First Book Of Experiences)', and 1972's 'Le Musee de L'Impressionnisme'. The very sketchy 'official' bio of Fred Israel is lacking substance, with a pic of an older caucasian gentleman as our only 'concrete' proof. ....I recognize these shenanigans ;)
And judging by the mercurial character of ole Robert Callender and the crew of motley characters he was involved with, I could easily envision Fashions Of The Moon as his take on cosmic space-rock, as 'The Way' was his and his cohorts epic raga-India-psych-rock and 'Le Musee' is a wild ahead-of-its-time amalgam of psych-funk-proto-prog tribute to the Impressionist artsists....
I could see all these super-creative musical gems created by a core-group of musical geniuses, with a little help from their many friends,
all at the same time, then piece-mealed out over time from various labels, locations and release dates....like a spiritual message secretly broadcast to the world! Like a mental creepy-crawl of imparted awakening from some secret King Of Hearts, seeding high rays of wisdom through music and the sands of Time; beautiful souls of powerLove, pioneers of Freedom...
...rare gifts are their footprints left behind for those with ears to hear.
At the end, none of this matters, what matters is enjoying some completely original, wonderful creations from another fellow being on this Earthwalk, enjoying and giving Thanks, respect, gratitude and Love for being part of such a groovy scene.....Right On. Right On.
    Outstanding brother Julian, Thank You!!!

  7. ps. ....was wondering if you had a rip of an obscure Lp from the ole PNF days, Doros Georgiadis & Stavros Sideras 'It's Been 2000 Years' from 1976 Greece?
and also seeking Charles Lloyd's 'Warm Water' from 1971....
I know it was posted online within the last couple years, but that rip is totally corrupted and unlistenable about half way through, just when its starts gettin' really good & trippy with Brian Wilson & some Beach boys in their TM days, jammin' with Charles :) ...thought it can't hurt to ask around ;) :) Thanks again bro :)

  10. This is really a strange affair.
In the first track, "Message in a bottle" (^_^), he sings about "The dark side of the moon" (^_^) .....at some point it seemed like Daevid Allen (RIP <3) sang with Magma (^_^)
A beautiful record, thanx for this, Julian
    Have a nice Sunday
