Whiplash's Getting to Know Us from 1980, USA

As the fortune teller predicted, we now switch away from the jazz and fusion of the past summer to return to our roots, US-style prog along the lines of Ariel - Perspectives, Spaces - Border Station, Jester, or the much beloved Canadian Machines have Landed, etc.

But similar to the case with Luna Sea where side a was more simplistic and commercialized and side b more driven in the progressive fusion direction, we really have just half an album here.  For those looking for the wonderful banging of a rock rhythm section and dying again for the electric excitement of amplified guitars, this is anyways a blissful change.  Consider the last part of Fugitive (A Suite in Three Movements):

Pretty good, right?

The information here suggests the band only made this LP, not so surprisingly.  Checking the credits on the verso scan makes it clear the other entry in the discogs database is a mistake.

    1. Hi, this is Alex, the guitarist from Whiplash. Thanks for the kind remarks! Myself, the drummer Biran, Keyboardist and composer of all the material Kirk, Ken on violyn were 17 and 18 years old and had just graduated from High School when we recorded the album in 1980. Bill the bassist was a junior and was maybe 17 and Andy the Saxaphonist was a softmore and was about 15-16. We didn't even know that some of the 500 records produced were sold in Texas (I guess?) We're from California and I'd always thought that all the records were shipped to our town. Kirk wants me to do a full high quality digitization of all the music so that we can release it online. I'll work on that soon. Regards, Alex

    1. Thank you Phil. that's very kind of you to notice and respond! This is Alex, the guitarist from Whiplash. This album was a kick to make! I was 17 and had just graduated from High School when we recorded it. We didn't even know that other copies were sold outside CA and we never caught up with the times and released it digitally yet, except this release from the prog music blogger. The album was recorded in CA and the 500 records were made in Texas. Apparently some were allowed to be sold there thus this blogger seems to have found one surprisingly. I will aork on getting the rest of the songs digitized and released. Kirk Whipple, the keyboardist, is the mastermind and composer of all of the material on the record.
